Trial classes aren’t available for Toddler classes, or Life Drawing sessions, as these run on a weekly drop-in basis. Trials also exclude Dotty by Design and Thursday Night Social classes.

Working from carefully arranged still life objects and natural forms, you'll learn how artists observe the world, translate what they see onto paper and develop those observations into a finished painting on canvas.
 

Through step-by-step demonstrations, practical exercises and individual guidance, you'll gain a deeper understanding of drawing, tone, colour and composition while building confidence in your own creative abilities.

This course is for you, if you:

  • Have always wanted to learn to draw and paint but don't know where to start.

  • Are returning to art after a break and would like a structured refresher.

  • Want to strengthen your observational skills.

  • Enjoy learning in a friendly, supportive environment.

What you'll learn

What level is this course suitable for?

This course is suitable for all levels and complete beginners to drawing and painting. 




What's included, do I need to bring anything?

We will supply all painting and drawing materials for the full term, canvases are available to buy at our studio. You are welcome to bring along your own photo for referencing - this can be discussed with Sarah on week 1.




Finished this course, what's next? 

We offer a wide range of different art and creative classes, with drop-ins available for selected sessions. Find out more on our Adult class page.

Classes are taught at 8 Station Terrace NW10 5RT. If you are keen to continue this course and keep developing your skills, you are very welcome to re-enrol. While enjoying all materials included and you will have a tutor is close by for assistance and further guidance.
Working from photographs, sketches and your own observations, you'll explore how to simplify shapes, build rich layers of colour and create paintings that capture atmosphere, rather than every detail. Through demonstrations and individual guidance, you'll develop the confidence to experiment, trust your instincts and enjoy the painting process!

This course is for you, if you:

  • Want to develop your painting skills in a friendly, supportive studio.

  • Love landscapes but aren't sure how to move beyond realism.

  • Would like to loosen your style and paint with more confidence.

  • Enjoy learning alongside like-minded people.

  • Simplifying the landscape into shapes and colour

  • Colour mixing and creating atmosphere

  • Expressive brushwork and mark-making

  • Layering techniques to build depth and texture

  • Working with acrylic, oil paints, pastels, collage etc.

  • Developing your own personal painting style

  • Knowing when a painting feels finished

Each session includes practical demonstrations, guided exercises and time to develop your own artwork.

By the end of the course you'll have:

✓ Greater confidence using colour and composition
